gallery, is now under new artistic management! The previous company is
taking their lighting equipment with them; nobody blames them (this stuffs
expensive!). However, in order for The BLUE to continue business as usual,
all of this equipment needs to be replaced. So, we are reaching out to our
community and local businesses for help.
On Sunday, August 1st, 2010, the BLUE THEATRE will team up with local bands
HOME BY
HOVERCRAFT and
ABANDONED
WAREHOUSE to host BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL - An All-Day LIVE Music Event
designed to raise money for our lighting overhaul.
The entire community is invited to come rock out while supporting a local
arts institution. Give till it hurts while listening to great music,
drinking fantastic cocktails courtesy of TITOS HOMEMADE VODKA, enjoying
finger-licking BBQ from OLD SCHOOL BBQ & GRILL and mingling with music
lovers, artists, patrons, and neighborhood family and friends.

invite all our readers, friends, clients, supporters and cyclist in
celebrating this newspaper’s 23rd anniversary. This year anniversary will be
celebrated on Aug. 7 with a Tour de Mueller bicycle ride at the new Mueller

Riders can either drive to the Mueller Headquarters’ parking lot at Airport
and Barbara Jordan Blvd. The rider will assemble at 8:00 a.m. and begin the
ride at approximately 8:15 a.m. The ride will take place on the Mueller hike

asked to wear helmets and bring whatever safety attire they desire. Riders
will have to provide their own bikes and those planning to ride are asked to
call NOKOA AT (512) 499-8713 so that we can gain an idea of how many
riders will participate.
Following the bicycle a free barbeque lunch
will be provided at the NOKOA office located at 1154-B Angelina Street. The
luncheon will catered by Ruby’s BBQ and begin at 11:30 a.m. and end at 2:30
a.m. or when the food runs out. There will be a brief presentation about the

minutes, someone dies.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk is the nation’s night
to pay tribute to lives lost to cancer and to bring help and hope to
thousands of patients and their families. Last year, over 2000 walkers
carried illuminated balloons to light the night with hope; red balloons for
supporters, white balloons for survivors, and gold for those walking in
memory of a loved one.
Funds raised through Light the Night Walk support the work of hundreds of
the world’s best and brightest researchers who are working to cure leukemia,
lymphoma and melanoma.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) also helps enhance and prolong lives
touched by blood cancer through it’s education and support programs.
Information and resources for blood cancer patients and their families are
available on LLS’s Web site,
www.lls.org or by calling the Information Resource Center at
800-955-4572.

15th Young Latino Artists:
Consensus of Taste July 16
- August 29
Mexic-Arte Museum
 |
Curated by Claudia Zapata, M.A. in Art History
from the University of Texas at Austin, this exhibition features the current
visual artwork of artists from the past fourteen YLA exhibitions. American
art critic Clement Greenberg's paper “Can Taste Be Objective” suggests there
is a “consensus of taste” in which disputed taste eventually is agreed upon
by all parties. The curator utilizes this concept to showcase past YLA
artists' current work and their development into professional visual
artists.
In 1996, the inception of the Young Latino Artists exhibition resulted in
one of the most highly anticipated annual traditions for the Mexic-Arte
Museum.
YLA 15 artists are Jesus Benavente, Candace Briceńo, Margarita Cabrera,
Bobby Dixon, Santiago Forero, Eduardo Xavier Garcia, Ivete Lucas, Randy
Muniz, Cruz Ortiz, Matthew Rodriguez, Carlos Rosales-Silva, Abel Saucedo,
Vargas-Suarez Universal, David “Shek” Vega, and Jason Villegas.
