FORECLOSURE IS FOR THE BIRDS!

July 22

7-9 PM

Ruiz Library
1600 Grove near East Riverside

FREE

Are you unemployed, underwater, behind in your mortgage and facing foreclosure?

Has poor credit kept you from getting a loan modification from HUD-sponsored programs?

Have you considered that you may be a victim of predatory lending practices?

Join the Homeowner Consumer Protection Foundation Panel Discussion from 7-9 PM on Thursday, July 22, at the Ruiz Library, located at 1600 Grove near East Riverside. Admission is free but reservations are a must - and may be made by calling 512.797.8458.

Homeowners Consumer Protection Foundation is a lifeline for a growing number of homeowners fighting foreclosure, predatory lenders and abusive loan servicers. Dedicated to helping homeowners understand their rights and defenses, as well as training attorneys in this new and complicated area of law, the three founding partners will present valuable information and answer questions about predatory lending practices involving first and second mortgages, home improvements, mobile homes and rent-to-own transactions.

Fernando Orozco is an entrepreneur, financier and former paralegal who pioneered the use of mortgage loan forensics in defending foreclosures. Kent M. Leediker is a 20 year practicing Austin attorney who, since the mortgage crisis hit, has been successfully helping homeowners defend their homes. Dian Darby is a 'poster child' for predatory lending who has overcome her challenges and wants to share her new-found wisdom with others. She has a Texas medical license and operates a community clinic in East Austin.

Homeowners Consumer Protection Foundation offers homeowners a free preliminary mortgage violation analysis, or PMVA, to determine if the loan is, in fact predatory. It is important to analyze the homeowner's complete closing package including a review of their TILA (Truth in Lending Act), (RESPA) Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act , Uniform Residential Loan Application, Closing Statement, Note and various other documents.

Lake Park at Mueller, near the Dell Children’s Medical Center

To Register: go to www.lightthenight.org/sctx  Corporate Teams, Friends & Family Teams, and Individual Walkers welcomed

Why go?
Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk is the nation’s night to pay tribute to lives lost to cancer and to bring help and hope to thousands of patients and their families. Last year, over 2000 walkers carried illuminated balloons to light the night with hope; red balloons for supporters, white balloons for survivors, and gold for those walking in memory of a loved one.

Funds raised through Light the Night Walk support the work of hundreds of the world’s best and brightest researchers who are working to cure leukemia, lymphoma and melanoma.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) also helps enhance and prolong lives touched by blood cancer through it’s education and support programs. Information and resources for blood cancer patients and their families are available on LLS’s Web site, www.lls.org or by calling the Information Resource Center at 800-955-4572.

7/16 - 8/29 15th Young Latino Artists: Consensus of Taste

July 16 - August 29

Mexic-Arte Museum

Curated by Claudia Zapata, M.A. in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin, this exhibition features the current visual artwork of artists from the past fourteen YLA exhibitions. American art critic Clement Greenberg's paper “Can Taste Be Objective” suggests there is a “consensus of taste” in which disputed taste eventually is agreed upon by all parties. The curator utilizes this concept to showcase past YLA artists' current work and their development into professional visual artists.

In 1996, the inception of the Young Latino Artists exhibition resulted in one of the most highly anticipated annual traditions for the Mexic-Arte Museum.

YLA 15 artists are Jesus Benavente, Candace Briceńo, Margarita Cabrera, Bobby Dixon, Santiago Forero, Eduardo Xavier Garcia, Ivete Lucas, Randy Muniz, Cruz Ortiz, Matthew Rodriguez, Carlos Rosales-Silva, Abel Saucedo, Vargas-Suarez Universal, David “Shek” Vega, and Jason Villegas.
