AIA Austin Presents
Visual Acoustics: The
Modernism of Julius Shulman
A Film by Eric Bricker
Sunday, March 7, 2010
2:50 pm
Regal Arbor 8 at Great Hills
|
Visual Acoustics celebrates the life and career
of Julius Shulman, whose images brought modern architecture to the American
mainstream. Shulman, who passed away this year, captured the work of nearly
every major modern and progressive architect since the 1930s including Frank
Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Gehry.
His images epitomized the singular beauty of Southern California's modernist
movement and brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general
public. Narrated by Dustin Hoffman, this unique film is both a testament to
the evolution of modern architecture and a joyful portrait of the magnetic,
whip-smart gentleman who chronicled it with his unforgettable images.
A post-film Q&A with director Eric Bricker will follow the screening.
Tickets to Visual Acoustics are on sale on March 2nd, and will be available
for purchase,

which was founded as the Texas Arts and Crafts Fair in 1951. For several
decades the festival was named Fiesta at Laguna Gloria. Each April, hundreds juried independent and
emerging artists descend on the hub of innovation, expression, and
individuality that is Austin, Texas. 20,000+ art enthusiasts from the region
and nation are expected at Art City Austin '10 (formerly the Austin Fine
Arts Festival). The outdoor fair is set against streets, plazas, and green
spaces on the edge of a flourishing and hip downtown shopping and arts
district where the award-winning Austin City Hall rests on the banks of Lady
Bird Lake. Reflecting the city's vibrant energy, the city's largest and
longest running outdoor art fair offers not only rousing art for many
budgets, but complimentary art experiences for all who enter. Discover a
temporary art utopia where curious and delightful discoveries await around
each corner. Admission is $8 for adults-under 12 are free.

popular music production in the post-World War II United States — New York
City, Los Angeles, Miami, San Antonio and San Francisco — which represent
the diversity of Latino music.
Each city section draws visitors into the broader histories and cultures
that shaped these musicians’ contributions through artifacts, hands-on
instrument interactives, listening kiosks that allow critical listening and
learning, three films created for the exhibition and interpretive text
